Produced by Kean University Theatre Conservatory in the 23-24 Season as the MainStage series musical. Our production concept set the play in Haiti (the historical pearl of the Antilles) and put the players, in the ‘contemporary’ moments, in ~2018 after Hurricane Matthew or similar natural disaster like the last large earthquake. We chose to set in a city scape meant to evoke the streets of Port-au-Prince or a similar, larger regional city. Produced in February during black history month, our dramaturgs used the opportunity to create a lobby display to raise awareness of Haitian history, as well as current events effecting Haiti. We also utilized the display to raise awareness of and celebrate the life and work of Rosa Guy, the author of the source material, as well as celebrate 40 years of Ahrens and Flaherty’s collaboration.

The Mad Mad Scientist Play

Produced by The Gnome Haus in June 2018, this Equity Showcase production ran for three weeks at the 13th Street Repertory Theatre. This new work, commissioned from E. E. Wade by the Gnome Haus asked what if time travel were real, via a humanoid AI, invented onstage in front of us? And if it were - what would happen if we went back to fix our mistakes?

The Mad Mad Scientist Play smoothly balances its fantastical elements with some very authentic human insights. This is thanks to E.E. Wade’s thoughtful script and Josh F.S. Moser’s fluid direction. - Jed Ryan, Lavender After Dark
